What we got up to in Summer 2019

Antonia Beard's Process and Production Art - 1st June

Jazz with Maria Papadaki - 22nd June

Exploring the Radio Garden - 29th June

Scottish Folk Music with Elisabeth Flett  - 20th July

June Thank Yous

It was certainly a quality month for the Saturday Lunch Club. We had some fantastic Romani dancing led by Janna who brought a great deal of experience and knowledge to our Saturday in an informal setting. Also, the very talented artist Rosie Wyllie who took us for a still life art class and encouraged our creative side.

As usual a massive thank you to our resident volunteer Steve, whose commitment as always is inspiring. As well as TJ our Older People's Project team member.

Thank you, you amazing people!

Antonia Beard's Process and Production Art - 1st June

Antonia Beard led a truly innovative and inspiring workshop examining creativity in the everyday. Antonia is a process-based artist who taught us all about the creation and development of art using different mediums. At this session, she looked at how we create visual and emotional maps that lead to artwork generation. As well as talking about how we can produce our own art.

Using a simple scanner and printer, Antonia and the group created a unique artwork by using personal effects and the items surrounding us. We were surprised to find the beauty in the objects and had a wonderful afternoon discussing the results. Check out the group in action and the results below.

Jazz with Maria Papadaki - 22nd June

Maria is an amazing vocalist from Crete, who performed for us and proved to be an audio treat. With her wonderful voice she showcased jazz standards from the 1920s to today looking at the evolution of jazz. We enjoyed some great songs through the decades and even sung along.

In honour of Maria we served a delicious Mediterranean style buffet lunch.

Exploring the Radio Garden - 29th June

We had Radio Garden Party and explored radio from all across the world. With an international buffet including samosas, spring rolls and couscous we enjoyed an international afternoon of music, food and discussion.

This was an afternoon having fun with the Radio Garden - where to find it, where it came from, what you can find in it – we searched for places that meant something to us, and randomly came across music, news, languages, live on radio across the world. We also had a bit of a dance and a lively discussion as the session drew to a close.

July Thank Yous

What a musical July we had at the Saturday Lunch Club this month! Massive thank you to Elisabeth Flett who performed and entertained us with Scottish Folk Music and Dean Lotherington who gave us a revue of some classic musical theatre. Both artists not only performed but educated us on their musical genre and had the audience joining in!

Again a massive thank you to our volunteers - Steve, who as usual supplied the drinks and his unwavering support and our new member Mary who has brought her years of volunteering experience to KTCC. We also welcome our new team member DJ who will be joining in at our Saturday Lunch Club from now on.

Thank you, you amazing people!

Scottish Folk Music with Elisabeth Flett  - 20th July

Elisabeth performed a lively concert of folk tunes and songs, both traditional and modern, on fiddle, whistle, recorder and more! Elisabeth brought along some shakers and other small percussion instruments so that everyone can get involved!
