August Thank Yous

What an absolutely bumper month August was! Despite the heat we managed three lunch clubs this month, each one very different from the other. We started with an art class and cocktails with the amazing Amelie Persson who provided us with a wonderfully creative session using colour and shape. This was followed by Emma Crocombe's excellent Karaoke Party which got everybody singing and dancing. We closed the month with the Tiya Dahyabhai's terrific Creating With Cord workshop where we all learned a new skill!

A massive thank you to all our workshop leaders as well as our usual volunteers Mary and Steve, plus our new team Dereje! We honestly could not run the Saturday Lunch Club without you.

Thank you, you amazing people!

Song in the Sun - A Broadway Luncheon - 10th August

We were very pleased to welcome back Dean Lotherington to lead us in some summer singing. This session was packed with summer-themed musical theatre numbers, with songs such as "Summertime", "Summer Holiday" and "Summer Nights".  We also sung some classics from "Oklahoma" and "South Pacific" with lots of audience participation and even an impromptu performance from one of our members. Dean was amazing as always, performing sols form the group and giving some interesting information about each song or composer to keep our minds engaged.

Drink and Draw - 10th August

What an amazing time we had at KTCC Drink and Draw with Amelie Persson!

Amelie Persson is a full-time freelance illustrator who hosted our Saturday Lunch Club as part of our Older People’s Project. This was a fun and inspiring drawing session, where we gathered around a lush summery flower bouquet and experimented with different drawing material. This session was all about colour and shape, and the group produced some fabulous art works. We also enjoyed a few cheeky cocktails, created by our resident barman.  Everyone had such a good time.

Cake and Karaoke - 17th August

Our resident host Emma Crocombe led us back with a classic Karaoke session! Emma's amazing energy saw us get through a full two hours of singing!!!!

We had some rock classics such as Queen, disco beauties from Abba and even saw some Marilyn Monroe in a rendition of "Diamonds Are a Girls Best Friend". We did quite a few group numbers where the whole room joined in but also had some fabulous solos from our members. There are some really crooners in the group!

We also had a cake themed buffet as well as enjoy a variety of cakes as part of our usual buffet.

Creating With Cord by Tiya Dahyabhai - 31st August

With the teachings of Tiya Dahyabhai we learnt the craft of cord making! In this hands on workshop we used tools such as braiding star and kumihimo disks to create cords influenced by cultures from across the world. Through the act of making, we encouraged an engagement between materials, tools and each other.

We even served a buffet lunch with a mixed cultural theme. What an incredibly crafty session this was!

September Thank Yous

September proved to be a month filled with music and dance. Amerissa Vogiatzi taught the most wonderful Latin Dance class, where we all enjoyed a bit of Salsa, Bacatta and Merenge, along with a Latin themed lunch.

We were also lucky enough to have the fabulous Jasmine Ee host a session of contemporary dance, catering for all abilities. We learned a gentle and expressionist routine as well as stretching and general movement.

A massive thank you to all our guest artists this month and as usual a massive thank you to our regular volunteers and team - Steve, Mary and Dereje. You really made September a spectacular month here at the centre.

Thank you, you amazing people!

Latin Dance with Amerissa Vogiatzi - 14th September

We had a wonderful with session with Amerissa Vogiatzi where we learned Latin Salsa, Cha Cha Cha, and Baccata steps. Learning the steps individually first, we then tried them in couples. It was a fun-filled afternoon of dance with some great company, where we all learned a thing or two. We also enjoyed a Latin style lunch buffet.

Following this lunch club, Amerissa now teaches a free monthly Latin Dance class which is free for anyone over 60. Click here for more information.

Gentle Movement with Jasmine Ee - 21st September

Jasmine led a fabulous movement class that drew inspiration from contemporary dance. The workshop included stretching, breathing and expression. This was a class that could be undertaken standing or sitting, so everybody could join in!  The dance was beautiful, gentle and allowed for all dance abilities. This was also served with a healthy buffet lunch.
