Past EventsMales and Holes by Francesco Filangeri OPEN HOUSE LONDON 21 September 2008A very successful Open House was held at Kentish Town Community Centre in 2008, with nearly 200 people coming to see the exhibition by local Natasha Gomberts entitled 'Flotilla', together with the plans for our own proposed building extension. As expressed by one of our visitors in a letter to Camden New Journal: "My last Open House visit of 2008 was made to KTCC, off Torriano Avenue, where I received a warm welcome and a coffee at the end of a long day. There was plenty of information about the planned extension, apparently needed because the building is bursting at the seams with activities and needs more space. The enthusiasm for the project deserves success and I wish them good luck with their lottery application. Apparently, they will find out if they have been successful next February. After leaving the centre, I popped into the imposing St. Luke's Church close by. The new formed Friends of St. Luke's hope to open up the church on a regular basis. I would like to contratulate those responsible at KTCC and St. Luke's for the buzzing atmosphere. Kentish Town is fortunate to have such facilities in its midst and such enthusiastic volunteers." Kentish Town ShowcaseThe Kentish Town Community Centre threw open its doors on 28th March 2009, inviting all those that work and live in the area to celebrate the different cultures and talents in Kentish Town. There was food from all over the world, a photography exhibition of the many artists that lived in and around Camden Square at the end of the 19th century, and an exhibition of local artists’ latest work. The vivacious, sparkling Suzi Martin from the Torriano pub was our compere for the day introducing dance, music and drama performances, including the Torriano Infants School Choir, our own belly dancing goddesses and budding young thespians. In addition to the Somali, Ethiopian, Pakistani and Chinese food, The Torriano Poets provided food for thought with a few carefully chosen witty words of wisdom. There were activities for children including a craft workshop and face painting throughout the day. The inspiration for the day was to bring together different cultures and generations and to highlight the work of the Community Centre in Kentish Town. Mosaic-Making...
Following the success of our last Mosaic project, the Kentish Town Community Centre organised another workshop for all ages in May. The workshop gave participants the chance to create designs which they then made into mosaics. The finished project will go on the wall outside the Centre to replace those stolen last year. It was a great success and we hope to make some more mosaics soon so watch this space. Thank you to everyone who came along and contributed to the project!
Growing Food Without a Garden We had our very own gardener on hand to give advice on growing your own fruit and vegetables. People of all ages came along to learn how to grow their own dinner - from fresh tomatoes for your salads to juicy strawberries for pudding! There was a competition for the maker of the wackiest container and a special performance from The Camden Light Orchestra. OPEN HOUSE LONDONSunday 20th September
